Ordinary

Lyrics & Music: Kanon Wakeshima
Arrangement: Naoki "naotyu-" Chiba

Can you hear it?
This sound
My pumping heart
And my flattening brain
Are moving randomly

Can you hear it?
This note
I'll seize the disappearing moment
Once you're born, you immediately begin dying

In an instant

My left hand will be hectic for eternity
Even my right hand is diligently moving
Send me instructions
Being ashamed in front of what I want to become
Isn't good

I'm running in the finite
Doing the best I can without time to rejoice
This is an order
Hippocampus, please stop and fall behind
No place sells
A stopper for the forgetting curve of our days
Everything we have now
Is a luxury
While I'm being forgiven for what reflects in my heart
Someday I want a joy like the one of you picking up these fragments
And decorating my heart

Memories are the number of your retina's shutter sounds
Lungs and veins include nostalgia
Give me passion
I'll stop yearning behind what
I can't become

I know it's not eternal
I can't part with the engraved remains
This is fate
Whether I cut blue or red
I want to cause an error of mistakes
We can't buy time
The coming seasons now
Seem like they're weeping
Nobility is like something there's only one of
This is an ordinary happiness
Like how I'm sure you're laughing and shedding tears

I'm running in the finite
Doing the best I can without time to rejoice
I know it's not eternal
I can't part with the engraved remains

I say I want the present
I say I won't ever speak out
So I wonder if that's why I love you?
So I don't lose this and forget it
I'll be singing like this
Until my heart and brain
Making beats and pulses
Run out

Tsukinami

  1. thanks for the translation joseph! what made you go with "ordinary" as the title vs "monthly"? just trying to figure out the context of the title

It's been a while since I've translated this song, but the reason I went with "ordinary" vs "monthly" is because of how the word is used in the lyrics. She sings "tsukinami na shiawase", but that would sound strange as "monthly happiness". "Ordinary happiness" sounds much more in line with the overall theme of the song.

  2. Hi! I know that this was translated in 2015, but I would like to know what "Walruses, please stop and fall behind" meant in the lyrics? It sounded symbolic, but I wasn't able to dive deeper.

I haven't looked at this translation in years, but I actually mistranslated that line. It should be the part of the brain known as "Hippocampus", which has much more to do the lyrics than when I mistranslated it as "walrus".
