SL9

Lyrics & Composition: Sukima Switch

The wind didn't even move on a sultry night in a summer in '94
That night I couldn't sleep well, an invitation to dreams wouldn't come either
and an unbelievable news flowed through from the TV I turned on suddenly
The cicadas cried just once

21 lights were shown over and over
The name of a comet I'd never heard of before suddenly fell
and collided into Jupiter, though it couldn't fit on the screen
I looked up at the western sky without thinking

Calling out from distant, far off space
A wordless message from the messy six-tatami mat room
Dreams and hope somehow weren't real for me
Drinking a flat, lukewarm cola, I turned off the lights

The night sky doesn't change; it overlooks us as always
and laughs, calling me a coward for not trying to start walking
If you act, imagining even what you can't see,
then those things will be in the hands of those who wish for them

Calling out from distant, far off space
A wordless message from the messy six-tatami mat room

My feelings break into a run; an image of the future I'd forgotten
Holding my stirring heartbeat, day breaks

Calling out
from distant, far off
space

  1. Thanks. What do you think this song is about? It makes a lot of references to the Shoemaker Levy 9 Incident but i'm not sure that is actually what it is about

    1. Thanks for the comment!
From what I gather, it seems like the speaker was apathetic about dreams and whatnot before he/she saw the incident. After seeing it though, he/she realized they should go for things. Hence the line "If you act, imagining even what you can't see,
then those things will be in the hands of those who wish for them".
      I hope that makes sense!

    2. Ah ok got it. Also I think it's a he because.

I'm trying to learn japanese so hopefully I can do these translations myself. Particles and the verbs are what is giving me trouble. I have a good idea for when to use と cause that's the easiest but others leave me confused I know に へ and から Location, Towards and From but they have other meanings.

conjugation gives me trouble to such as when to use

輝く 輝き 輝け 輝やいて or 輝こう I know there are others these are just the first I thought of

    3. Hey! That's a great start! We all have to start somewhere.
I first started by romanizing kanji lyrics. That's how I was able to learn kanji.
      Just keep it up!
