Voice

Lyrics & Music: Ryota Yanagisawa
Arrangement: Keita Kawaguchi

At the scramble intersection that's like a repeat of yesterday
I looked at the overly blue sky - there'll be times that it's concealed if it rains...

In this city overflowing with things, something is unfulfilled
I felt like returning that rental movie without watching it

Hey, now, do you remember me?
Hey, now I remembered you

Your voice has always been here, and yet it never sounds out
It's not that I don't have things that I value
Even if I think I want to go home, I can't say I want to go home
Pretending to be strong and feeling lonely, I'm searching for tomorrow

Laughing, you said "See ya later", the first time on the Chuo Line
I realized I'm walking while avoiding the crowd of people with my practiced feet

Hey, now, how do you see me?
Hey, now, I probably can't see you

Gazing at the light of the TV I stare blankly at
Cell phone in my hand, the name I'm used to seeing
Without knowing what was on the mind of the person on the other end
I laughed unintentionally

Your voice has always been here, and yet it never sounds out
"I get it" "It's a lie, right?" you're evading me
But I'm somehow happy, so I'll surely wait for the morning
I expect a today where it'll repeat

I've always been here, and I'm surely here now
Hesitation and loneliness are natural
But I wanted to say I want to go home, I didn't say I want to go home
Pretending to be strong and feeling lonely, I'll still walk on
I'll walk on

Tomorrow I'll return that move I haven't watched

  1. This is one of my favorite SCANDAL songs! Just a question, is there a better way of translating:

Your voice has always been here, and yet it never sounds out
"I get it" "It's a lie, right?" you're evading me

I can't seem to get the point - or maybe I'm just really slow. Apologies, English is not my first language. Anyways, can anyone explain this part to me? Thanks!

    1. Thank you for your comment! As far as the line is concerned, the Japanese word here "響かなくて", means something along the lines of "it [the voice] doesn't resound / doesn't affect [me] / doesn't touch [the speaker's heart]". It's a bit vague, but it seems to me like the person she loves isn't being honest with her.
